If you have trouble keeping your colors pure and vibrant, here are a few things you can do to alleviate the problem:
– Limit your palette, it will create a more unified look to your painting and familiarize you with the way specific colors mix. My standard palett is Prussian blue, ultramarine, alizarin, cad red light, yellow ochre, cad yellow light and titanium white.
– Use a palette knife for mixing and wipe it off between colors! Wipe your brush frequently as well.
– Don’t over blend, colors should be mixed on the palette, not the canvas. A little bit of blending where the edged meets fine, but try to keep some brush strokes visible for a looser, more lively look.
