Nauset Beach, oil on canvas, 18x24 in.

I will be offering a one-day workshop at the Visual Arts Center of NJ in Summit entitled “A Day at the Beach”. Students will learn to capture the motion and vibrancy of the ocean in the medium of their choice (oil, acrylic and pastel will be demonstrated). The workshop runs from 10 am to 4 pm on Aug. 14 and costs $100 to attend. Call the art center at 908-273-9121 for more information and to register.

    Hi Anne,
I really love your work. I also like your watercolors. As you know lighting is very important when doing your art. My question is: how do you set up lighting in your studio so that you don’t get any glare on the oil painting? I mostly paint at night and have white light bulbs.
    Thanks,
    Shy

That can be very challenging. I work primarily in natural light–not because I’m a purist, but because my studio does not have electricity (it is an old potting shed). I prefer natural light, but also don’t mind the natural light flourescents that the studios in the art centers have. Sorry Id on’t have better advice for you. All the best, Anne
