As an instructor, it is very important to me that students draw and paint in a manner that is natural to them and reflective of the ideas they wish to express through their art. I have several courses that I am offering this fall where students may work in the medium of their choice: oil, acrylic, pastel or charcoal. In these classes, I focus on principles and concepts that apply regardless of the medium and style you choose to work in. Each week I do a demo in a different medium or combination of mediums that relates to importance of values, composition, and color theory. Experimentation is highly encouraged in these classes.
- Visual Interpretation – Intermediate / Advanced (Visual Arts Center of NJ, Summit). This course focuses on the expressive use of color and composition. Students will explore alternative approaches to composition, color usage and media selection. This is a 10-week course that runs Tuesday mornings from 9:30 a.m .to noon. To register, call the Visual Arts Center of NJ at 908-273-9121. Cost is $230 for VAC NJ members / $250 for non-members.
- Paint It Your Way! – Intermediate / Advanced (Visual Arts Center of NJ, Summit) This class welcomes students working in all styles and media (oil, acrylic, pastel, collage/mixed media, charcoal). Students may work on projects of their own design or from challenges/set-ups I provide. Each week I will demonstrate a new technique relative to a specific medium or combination of media. This class is a 10-week course which is held on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Call the Visual Arts Center of NJ to register at 908-273-9121, the cost is $230 for members or $250 for non members.
NEW – Student Exhibit Opportunity!
Students participating in each of these classes will have a special exhibition opportunity in November! The Visual Arts Center of NJ has partnered with the Paper Mill Playhouse to present a series of exhibits featuring the work of art center students from selected instructors. I have been asked to curate a show of acrylic, pastel and mixed media work which will be on display in November, more to come at the first session of each of the classes listed below.
Tomorrow I will focus on the classes I have this fall that are targeted to specific levels of artistic development, from beginner to intermediate to advanced. To view ALL of my fall classes, go to the Workshops & Classes page.
